The product

Novacutan BioPRO is supplied as a sterile 2 ml pre-filled syringe of cross-linked, high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid at 20 mg/ml, formed into micro beads of gel, with two 31G × 13 mm needles. The brand calls it a matrix biomodulator: a hyaluronic acid product designed to improve the quality of the skin rather than to add volume. The official indications are rejuvenation and improvement of skin quality, restoration of the delicate skin structure, and correction and prevention of ageing signs. The gel degrades completely and is absorbed by the body.

The listed composition is hyaluronic acid only. There are no vitamins, amino acids or peptides in the product data, so the effect comes from water binding and the skin's response to the injections, not from a nutrient cocktail.

Why cross-linking matters

Hyaluronic acid binds many times its own weight in water, but unmodified hyaluronic acid is a soluble polymer that the skin clears within days. Cross-linking joins the chains into a gel that resists enzymatic breakdown, so the water-binding effect stays in the dermis until the gel is degraded. The same principle is used in Restylane Skinboosters. Profhilo takes the opposite route: its hyaluronic acid is deliberately left non-crosslinked so that it spreads from a few injection points.

What the evidence shows

We found no independent published trial of Novacutan BioPro; its claims come from the manufacturer's product information. The evidence for intradermal hyaluronic acid boosters as a class is stronger. A randomised, assessor-blinded trial of 448 adults given three sessions of hyaluronic acid four weeks apart measured higher skin hydration and elasticity than untreated controls at day 84, with no serious adverse events; the only lasting reaction was one case of post-procedural pigmentation that cleared within three months. A split-face, placebo-controlled study of three sessions reported hydration 35 percent higher and firmness 27 percent higher than the saline side ten days after the last session.

Those studies tested other hyaluronic acid products. We quote them as evidence for the mechanism and the three-session pattern, not as a result you should expect from this brand.

Where we place it

Novacutan BioPro is injected intradermally across the area agreed at your consultation, most often the cheeks, lower face and neck where the skin looks dry, dull or finely lined. The 2 ml syringe covers a larger area in one session than the 1 ml boosters. The manufacturer does not name the under-eye area; for thin, dark under-eye skin we more often recommend Plinest Eye.

A typical course

The brand page gives one session a month, three sessions per course, up to twice a year. The distributor data sheet gives three to four sessions at two-to-four-week intervals. Our doctors choose the interval within that range from how your skin settled after the previous session; the next appointment is booked after that check, not in advance for everyone.

Novacutan BioPro or Restylane Skinboosters

Both are cross-linked hyaluronic acid gels at 20 mg/ml placed in the dermis in many small injections, so they behave alike in the skin. The differences are in the packaging and the evidence. Restylane Skinboosters Vital comes in a 1 ml syringe with a Smart Click dose guide and lidocaine, and Galderma has published trial data showing better elasticity for up to six months after a course. Novacutan BioPro comes in a 2 ml syringe and has manufacturer data only. We use Restylane where precise dosing matters, such as the neck, hands and around the mouth, and Novacutan where a larger facial area needs hydration in one session.

Novacutan or Profhilo

Profhilo delivers 64 mg of non-crosslinked hybrid hyaluronic acid at five points per side of the face and spreads on its own over the following day. It is our choice when laxity of the cheeks and jawline is the main complaint. Novacutan stays where it is placed, so it suits skin that is still reasonably firm but dehydrated or finely lined. Novacutan or a cocktail booster

NCTF, Jalupro Classic and the Monaco Cocktail combine non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid with vitamins, amino acids, minerals or peptides. Their hyaluronic acid is absorbed within days, so they are booked as short courses at close intervals and their effect rests on the added ingredients as much as on hydration. Novacutan is a pure cross-linked gel with no cocktail. Choose it when persistent dermal hydration is the goal; choose a cocktail booster when your doctor wants amino acids or antioxidants in the plan, for example for uneven tone.

Novacutan or a polynucleotide booster

Plinest and Rejuran Healer contain polynucleotides from salmon DNA rather than hyaluronic acid. They are used for repair, thin under-eye skin and acne-scarred skin, and they do not hydrate the way hyaluronic acid does. Mesoten Aqualight combines hyaluronic acid with succinic acid and peptides for a hydration-and-radiance goal.

Novacutan with fillers or collagen stimulators

A skin booster does not change expression lines or restore lost volume. Fillers and collagen stimulators can be combined with Novacutan in separate appointments spaced a few weeks apart, so that each treatment can be assessed on its own.

Before your appointment

Bring your skincare product list so we can confirm what to pause and when to restart. Do not stop prescribed treatment without your prescriber’s advice.

Bring details of previous injectables and facial treatments: the products, dates and any reactions. Tell us about all medicines and supplements, especially anything that affects bleeding: warfarin and other anticoagulants, aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, St John's wort, garlic and ginger supplements. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own to prepare for a cosmetic treatment; we assess bruising risk and coordinate with your prescriber if a medical decision is needed.

Let us know about pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies, a history of cold sores, recent illness, sunburn, and any laser, peel or microneedling in the last few weeks. We use this to decide whether treatment goes ahead, waits or is replaced by another option.

On the day

Come with clean skin if you can. We cleanse the area and discuss comfort measures, including a numbing cream, before injecting. The session ends with written aftercare and the date of your review.

After treatment

Keep the injection points clean and do not rub or massage the area unless your doctor tells you to. Leave makeup off until the injection points have closed, usually by the next day. Follow the timing in your written aftercare for exercise, sauna, steam and swimming; heat, sweating and pressure on fresh injection points increase swelling and bruising and raise the risk of infection. Protect the skin from the sun and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, because inflamed injection points can darken with sun exposure. Restart acid exfoliants when the skin has settled, as advised.

Small bumps at the injection points, redness and mild swelling usually settle within days; bruises take longer. Contact us if any symptom worsens instead of settling.

Review and repeat treatment

We review the area at follow-up before booking the next session in the course. After the course we assess your skin again and discuss whether a repeat course later in the year is worthwhile. A repeat is a fresh decision based on your skin, not an automatic booking.

Common effects

Injections into the dermis cause temporary redness, small bumps or wheals at the injection points, tenderness, swelling and itching. Bruising is common, particularly if you take medicines that affect clotting. These reactions usually settle within days.

Less common effects

Infection, an allergic reaction, persistent lumps or nodules, and darkening of the skin at the injection points can occur. A cold sore can be reactivated by injections around the mouth. Gel placed too superficially can show as visible beads until it is absorbed. Tell us promptly about persistent or worsening symptoms; do not treat them with another cosmetic treatment elsewhere without medical review.

When to get immediate help

Any facial injection carries a small risk of gel entering a blood vessel. Get immediate medical help for unusual or severe pain, skin near the injection site turning white, grey or blue, any change in vision, or signs of a stroke such as sudden weakness, numbness, face drooping or difficulty speaking. Difficulty breathing or swelling of the tongue or throat needs emergency care. Do not wait for a routine clinic reply.

When treatment may be unsuitable

We do not inject through an active infection, open skin or uncontrolled inflammation in the treatment area, and we do not use a product you are known to be allergic to or that contains an ingredient you have reacted to. A health condition or medicine that requires the treating doctor to change or postpone the plan is discussed before any injection.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the safety of injectable hyaluronic acid products has not been established, so we postpone. Bleeding disorders and anticoagulant treatment, an autoimmune disease in active flare, a history of keloid scarring, severe active acne or dermatitis in the area, recent sunburn, and a deep peel or ablative laser that has not fully healed all need review and may mean waiting. Licensing and authentic supply are important standards, but they do not remove treatment risks.
