Cheeks, jawline and chin: the 10 BAP points

Profhilo is registered for the malar and sub-malar area, the zone from the cheekbone down to the jaw where skin first loosens. The manufacturer's instructions define five Bio Aesthetic Points per side: the zygomatic protrusion, at least 2 cm from the outer corner of the eye; the nasal base, where a line from nostril to tragus crosses a vertical line from the pupil; 1 cm in front of the tragus; the chin, 1.5 cm towards the corner of the mouth; and 1 cm above the mandibular angle. Each point takes a 0.2 ml bolus, so one 2 ml syringe covers both sides of the face in a single session.

The points sit where the skin loses tone first, and the product spreads from them through the tissue spaces. That is why ten injections can treat the whole lower two-thirds of the face, where a mesotherapy booster needs dozens of micro-injections.

Neck, hands and body

Published studies with the same product also treated the neck, and the 2026 systematic review of nine studies and 278 participants reports improved elasticity, hydration, density and laxity on the neck, inner arms, abdomen, hands and knees. What changes and what does not

The studies in the review measured skin viscoelasticity, elasticity, hydration and density with instruments, plus the Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale and the Facial Volume Loss Scale by photograph. All improved or trended towards improvement after two sessions. In photographs, the reviewers describe better turgor, tone and texture and shallower nasolabial folds.

Profhilo does not restore lost fat, reposition sagging tissue or remove excess skin. A hollow temple, a flat cheekbone or a jowl that hangs below the jawline will still be there. For those we discuss dermal fillers, Sculptra or energy-based tightening; for an already firm face with dull skin, a lighter booster or PRP may be enough.

Timeline

• Day 0: ten raised wheals that flatten over the next 24 hours. - Days 1 to 10: redness, mild swelling or tenderness at the points can persist for up to 10 days according to the instructions; in the review, side effects usually resolved within 72 hours. - Day 30: second session. The published studies record their first measurements here. - Day 90: the point at which the studies report their main results. Compare your photographs now, not before. - After that: book a single maintenance session when you notice firmness fading. The instructions allow one every two months, up to seven sessions in 12 months.

The product

Profhilo is made by IBSA Farmaceutici Italia in Lodi, Italy, and has carried the CE mark since 2015. Each 2 ml pre-filled syringe contains 32 mg of high molecular weight and 32 mg of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid sodium salt in a buffered saline solution. The hyaluronic acid is produced by bacterial fermentation and joined into hybrid cooperative complexes by IBSA's patented NAHYCO Hybrid Technology, without the chemical cross-linkers used in fillers. The syringe comes with two 29G needles and is a prescription-only medical device for intradermal use.

Post-marketing safety data for Profhilo covering January 2018 to October 2023 counted an estimated 1 091 956 treated patients and 371 reported adverse events, 0.034 percent of patients, mostly swelling, redness and discomfort at the injection site.

Profhilo Body and Profhilo Structura are separate IBSA products with their own indications. We offer Profhilo for the face; we do not list the other two.

Profhilo and other skin boosters

They are placed as many small intradermal injections across the area rather than at ten points, and NCTF and Jalupro add vitamins, amino acids or peptides to the hyaluronic acid.

Profhilo delivers 64 mg of hyaluronic acid in one session and is the option we choose when laxity of the cheeks and jawline is the main complaint. Profhilo and dermal fillers

Their hyaluronic acid is chemically cross-linked so that it holds its shape and lifts or projects the tissue where it is placed. Profhilo does the opposite: it is designed to flow away from the injection point. The two can be combined, filler for structure and Profhilo for skin quality, in separate appointments a few weeks apart.

Profhilo and collagen stimulators

It suits a face that has become thin. Profhilo works faster, on the surface quality of the skin, and does not add volume.

Profhilo and regenerative treatments

Neither contains hyaluronic acid, so neither gives the immediate hydration Profhilo provides.

Before your session

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. If your prescriber agrees, pause aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E for three days to reduce bruising; never stop a prescribed blood thinner on your own. Come with clean skin and no makeup on the lower face.

The manufacturer's instructions state that Profhilo must not be combined with laser resurfacing or a medium-depth chemical peel, and that it must be injected into healthy skin. We postpone if you have an active cold sore, acne breakout, dermatitis or sunburn at any of the ten points, and we do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell us about any earlier reaction to hyaluronic acid injections, autoimmune disease, or dental work planned within two weeks.

After your session

Ice wrapped in a cloth eases the sting and swelling in the first hours. Leave the bumps alone; do not massage them, and they flatten within a day. No makeup for 12 hours. For 24 to 48 hours avoid exercise, sauna, steam, hot yoga, alcohol and facial massage. Avoid sun and sunbeds for 3 to 5 days and use SPF 50 on the treated area, as the instructions specify. Delay facials, microneedling and other injectables for two weeks.

Side effects

The manufacturer lists pain, a sensation of heat, redness, swelling and itching at the injection points, which usually settle quickly but can last up to 10 days, and hardening or small nodules at the points. In extremely rare cases with hyaluronic acid injections the literature reports skin discolouration, tissue necrosis, abscess, granuloma and allergic reaction. The 2026 systematic review found only mild, expected events such as bruising, swelling and small bumps that usually resolved within 72 hours, and post-marketing surveillance across more than a million patients recorded adverse events in 0.034 percent.

When to contact us immediately

Any injectable can enter a blood vessel. Call or message us at once, at any time, if you notice skin that turns white, blotchy or dusky, pain that increases instead of fading, a cold or numb patch, or any change in your vision. These need a doctor the same hour, not at your next visit. A bump that is still hard after two weeks or a point that becomes hot and red also needs review.
