The concern
What are wrinkles and expression lines?
Expression lines form where facial muscles move the skin many times, such as around the eyes and between the eyebrows. At first, a line can show only during movement. With time, it can remain visible when the face is at rest. Lines that are present at rest can also reflect sun damage, skin ageing or a loss of support below the skin.
Common causes
Why these lines become more visible
Repeated facial movement
Smiling, frowning and squinting repeatedly fold the skin in the same places. These folds can become more visible with time.
Natural skin ageing
Skin gradually becomes thinner and makes less collagen and elastin. It can then recover less easily after movement.
Sun exposure
Ultraviolet light damages collagen and other skin structures. This can make lines develop sooner and become more visible.
Smoking and individual features
Smoking can speed up visible skin ageing. Genetics, skin type and facial anatomy also affect where lines appear and how they change.
A measured starting point
Start with a 3D skin test
For visible facial skin concerns, the Janus PRO scan gives your doctor objective images and measurements before a treatment plan is made.
It photographs the face with standard, cross-polarised, parallel-polarised and UV light. The system maps visible features such as pores, pigmentation, redness, texture and sebum. Your doctor reviews this information with your medical history and examination to make a more precise facial-skin recommendation. The scan supports the decision; it does not diagnose a condition or select a treatment automatically.
