Scar
Camuflage
Scar Camuflage at Evolution Aesthetics blends the colour of scars, stretch marks, or light patches with the surrounding skin using paramedical micropigmentation. We match undertone and depth so the contrast is reduced and the area draws less attention in daily life. It is non-surgical with little downtime, and most people return to normal routines the same day. You’ll see an immediate softening of the colour difference, with the final tone settling after the skin heals. We offer small, medium, and large options based on area size, so you only book what you need. Results last many months to years and can be refreshed when pigment gently fades.
Natural colour blending with minimal downtime and predictable results
Precise colour matching reduces contrast
Custom pigment mixes matched to your undertone and depth help scars fade into surrounding skin.
Non-surgical correction and quick recovery
No incisions or stitches—micropigmentation places colour into the upper dermis and most people resume normal activity the same day.
Immediate visible blending
The area looks more blended right after treatment, with the final shade refining as the skin heals.
Long-lasting results
Colour typically holds 1–3 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure.
Adjustable and buildable colour
We can layer, soften, or modify tones in follow-up sessions to reach and maintain the best match.
Comfort managed with topical numbing
A topical anaesthetic helps keep the procedure comfortable; most describe the sensation as mild scratching.
Colour science and micropigmentation create a natural blend
Scar Camuflage is a form of paramedical tattooing that implants tiny amounts of colour-matched pigment into the upper dermis to reduce the contrast between a scar and the surrounding skin. After assessing the scar type (flat, atrophic, hypertrophic) and level of maturity, we map undertone and value using colour theory, Fitzpatrick skin typing, and visual swatches. A digital micropigmentation device with sterile, single-use needle cartridges deposits pigment in controlled pixels and layers, creating a soft gradient rather than a harsh line. For hypopigmented (light) scars, we blend customised mixes that match your natural undertone; for red or brown tones, we may first neutralise with correcting shades before adding the final match. The technique focuses on low-density shading and feathered edges to avoid sharp borders, helping the eye read a continuous skin tone. Pigment appears slightly stronger at first, then softens 20–40% through the normal healing cycle; a perfect match is refined with a follow-up once the skin has settled.Contraindications
Not everyone is a candidate for Scar Camuflage. Please review the list below and discuss any medical conditions or medications during your consultation.
- Scars that are not mature (typically less than 6–12 months old), still pink, or raised/itchy.
- Active skin issues on the area (infection, open wounds, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, or sunburn).
- History of keloid or significant hypertrophic scarring.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Bleeding disorders or use of blood-thinning medication without medical approval.
- Isotretinoin use within the last 6–12 months.
- Uncontrolled diabetes or significant immune system disorders.
- Known allergies to tattoo pigments, lidocaine/topical anaesthetics, or metals (e.g., nickel) used in needles.
- Active acne, cold sores, or folliculitis on or near the treatment area.
- Tendency to hyperpigment post-inflammation without prior assessment.
Few sessions, long wear, and clear aftercare for reliable results
Most clients need 2–3 sessions to build an accurate match, spaced 6–8 weeks apart to allow full healing and colour settling. You will see a visible improvement immediately, but the final tone is judged once the skin has finished peeling and the pigment has softened. Session length depends on area size: Scar Camuflage small typically takes 45–90 minutes, medium 1.5–2.5 hours, and large 2.5–4 hours. Longevity ranges from 1–3 years; factors like sun exposure, exfoliants, and skin turnover influence fade. Maintenance touch-ups are usually done every 12–24 months to keep the blend consistent. Pre-care: Avoid tanning and self-tanners on the area for 2 weeks; stop retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and exfoliants on the area for 5–7 days; limit alcohol for 24 hours; if medically approved, avoid non-essential blood thinners for 48–72 hours; arrive with clean skin and no lotion or makeup on the area. A patch test may be performed when appropriate. Aftercare: Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24–48 hours, then cleanse gently with lukewarm water and pat dry. Apply a very thin layer of the recommended ointment as instructed. Do not pick or scratch any flaking. Avoid heavy workouts, swimming, hot tubs, and saunas for 7–10 days. Keep the area out of direct sun and use high-SPF protection long-term to slow fading. A review is booked at 6–8 weeks to assess colour and plan any refinements. What goes well with Scar Camuflage?
- Specialist Dermatologist Consultation with 3D Skin TestStart with a Specialist Dermatologist Consultation with 3D Skin Test. It helps evaluate scar type, depth, and color, and choose the right timing for camouflage. The 3D scan maps texture so the practitioner can match pigments to your undertone and plan pretreatments if needed. It also allows a small patch test to check healing and color stability.
- Scar Laser RemovalScar Laser Removal reduces raised edges, softens fibrous tissue, and lightens darker rims around the scar. After texture and color are more even, camouflage needs less pigment, blends better, and looks more natural. Many people schedule laser a few weeks before the tattooing stage or between sessions.
- RF Microneedling for BodyRF Microneedling for Body stimulates collagen and elastin in stretched or indented body scars. Smoother, stronger skin holds pigment more evenly and reduces shadowing that can reveal the scar under makeup tattoo. Useful for burn, surgical, or stretch‑mark areas that need extra remodeling.
- Face MicroneedlingFace Microneedling helps refine fine atrophic scars and pores, making borders less sharp. Improved microcirculation and collagen lead to a more uniform canvas for pigment matching in camouflage. It can be alternated with camouflage sessions to gradually refine texture.
- LED TherapyLED Therapy calms redness and swelling after camouflage and other prep treatments. Gentle light speeds the resolution of post‑procedure irritation and supports steady pigment settling. Helpful if you need to return to work quickly and want more predictable healing.
