Erbium Skin
Laser Face Resurfacing

Appointment
Erbium laser face resurfacing gently removes the damaged top layers of skin to smooth fine lines, soften acne scars, and even out sun damage. Because the erbium wavelength targets water so precisely, it creates less heat than CO2 lasers, which means shorter downtime for many people. We can tailor each session from a light polish to a deeper resurfacing, depending on your goals and schedule. Most people notice fresher, brighter skin once the initial redness settles in about a week. At Evolution Aesthetics, we also perform Scar Laser Removal Body using iPixel Alma Harmony XL PRO and large-area tattoo removal on the Harmony XL PRO platform. If you want a cleaner texture and more even tone on the face with controlled recovery, this treatment is a strong option.

High-water absorption at 2940 nm removes damaged layers with micrometer control

Erbium:YAG lasers emit light at 2940 nm, a wavelength strongly absorbed by water—the main component of skin. When the beam touches the surface, it vaporizes very thin layers of the epidermis and, if desired, part of the superficial dermis. Because the energy is focused in water, heat spreads less to surrounding tissue compared with CO2, which supports quicker recovery. We can use fractional patterns (tiny microcolumns) or more uniform passes to control coverage and depth. Parameters such as fluence (energy), pulse duration, and density are tuned to your skin type and the concern being treated—fine lines, acne scars, or sun damage. The controlled tissue removal triggers a wound-healing cascade: fibroblasts produce new collagen and elastin, reorganizing the dermal matrix and leading to smoother, more even skin in the following weeks. At Evolution Aesthetics, we also offer laser services on the Harmony XL PRO platform, including iPixel erbium scar treatments for the body and large-area tattoo removal, which operate on similar principles of selective energy delivery.

  • Active skin infection, cold sores (HSV), or open wounds in the treatment area
  • History of frequent cold sores without antiviral prophylaxis

  • Tendency to form keloids or hypertrophic scars
  • Recent intense sun exposure or tanning (past 2–4 weeks)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Uncontrolled diabetes or disorders that impair wound healing
  • Photosensitizing medications (for example, some antibiotics) not cleared by the clinician
  • Autoimmune skin disease or active eczema/psoriasis in the area

Predictable results in 1–3 sessions; downtime 3–7 days depending on depth

Most people need 1–3 sessions for noticeable smoothing and tone improvement; acne scars often need 3–5 fractional sessions, spaced 4–8 weeks apart. A typical face session takes 30–75 minutes depending on coverage and depth. You’ll see clearer texture after initial healing (about 7–10 days for moderate treatments), with collagen remodeling that continues to improve skin quality for 3–6 months. Results from a deeper treatment can last a year or longer; many patients choose maintenance once a year. Before treatment: avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for 2–4 weeks, stop retinoids and exfoliants 5–7 days prior, and avoid waxing or peels for 2 weeks. If you get cold sores, start an antiviral as prescribed. Arrive with clean skin (no makeup). After treatment: expect redness, warmth, and swelling for 24–72 hours, then flaking/peeling for several days. Use gentle cleanser, a bland moisturizer or occlusive, and broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily. Avoid picking, hot tubs, pools, vigorous exercise, and heat exposure for 48–72 hours; limit direct sun until fully healed and continue diligent sunscreen. Makeup can usually be used after the skin has re-epithelialized, typically in 3–5 days for lighter treatments.
