IPL
Phototherapy for Face

IPL Phototherapy for Face uses intense pulses of light to fade sunspots, freckles, and facial redness while improving overall skin tone. At Evolution Aesthetics, we use the Harmony XL PRO platform for targeted treatment of pigmented lesions on the face. Sessions are quick and involve minimal downtime. Most people see clearer, brighter skin over a short series of visits. It feels like a warm flick on the skin, and makeup can usually be worn the next day. This treatment suits many skin types, with a personalised plan set during consultation.

How it works

Broad-spectrum light targets pigment and redness with precision

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) delivers high-intensity pulses of broad-spectrum light (typically 500–1200 nm) through a crystal tip into the skin. Using selective photothermolysis, specific wavelengths are filtered to target chromophores: melanin in brown pigment and oxyhemoglobin in facial vessels. When these structures absorb the light, they convert it to heat, leading to fragmentation of pigment and coagulation of tiny vessels. The body then clears the dispersed pigment through natural processes, while treated vessels collapse and fade. Controlled dermal heating can also stimulate collagen, supporting smoother texture and refined pores over time. At Evolution Aesthetics we treat pigmented lesions using the Alma Harmony XL PRO platform, which offers stable energy delivery and interchangeable filters to customise each pass for freckles, age spots, sun damage, and areas of redness.

Clearer tone, reduced redness, and fast sessions

Targets brown spots and sun damage
Selective light energy breaks down pigment from sunspots, age spots, and freckles for a more even complexion.
Improves facial redness and capillaries
Filters focus on redness from rosacea and broken capillaries, helping reduce flushes and blotchiness.
Quick treatments with minimal downtime
Face sessions usually take 20–40 minutes, and most people return to daily life immediately.
Visible changes after the first sessions
Pigment often darkens then flakes within days, with tone and clarity improving early in the course.
Non-invasive skin rejuvenation
No incisions or ablation; light energy heats specific targets while keeping surrounding skin intact.
Precision filters for personalised care
Advanced handpieces and wavelength filters on Harmony XL PRO allow tailored settings for your skin and concerns.

Treatment plan

Results build over 3–6 sessions with little downtime

Most clients need 3–6 IPL sessions for the face, spaced 3–4 weeks apart, to significantly reduce dark spots and facial redness. A typical appointment lasts 20–40 minutes, including preparation and cooling. Many see pigment darken and lift within 3–7 days after the first session, with tone and clarity improving each visit. Results for pigmentation and redness can last 6–12 months; maintenance is usually 1–2 sessions a year, depending on sun exposure and skin type. Before treatment: avoid tanning and self-tanners for 2–4 weeks, pause retinoids and exfoliants for 3–5 days, avoid waxing/peels for 1 week, and attend with clean skin. After treatment: expect mild redness or warmth for a few hours; pigment may look darker before flaking naturally—do not pick. Use gentle cleanser and moisturiser, avoid hot showers, saunas, and heavy workouts for 24–48 hours, pause retinoids/acids for 5–7 days, and apply broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 daily. Consistent sun protection is essential to maintain results and limit new pigmentation.
