Hydradermabrasion in one visit

What does a HydraFacial do?

The HydraFacial handpiece uses a spiral tip and gentle vacuum, the patented Vortex-Fusion technology, to lift dead cells and oxidised oil out of pores while a stream of solution keeps the skin wet. Nothing is scrubbed or squeezed.

The sequence is fixed: cleanse and exfoliate, a mild glycolic and salicylic peel, vacuum extraction, then an infusion of hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants.

A study of 20 women who had six sessions 7 to 10 days apart measured thicker epidermis, higher skin antioxidant levels and smaller pores. The same serum applied by hand changed nothing.

key facts

Is a HydraFacial right for you?

The manufacturer rates the treatment for nearly all skin types. These are the cases where we treat, adjust or ask you to wait.

  • Congested, dull or oily skinBlackheads, enlarged pores, rough texture and dehydrated skin respond after one session. This is the most common reason our patients book.
  • All skin tonesNo laser or heat, so darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV to VI) are treated at the same settings, with no light-induced pigmentation risk.
  • Before an eventSkin looks brightest 2 to 3 days after the session. Book 3 to 5 days before a wedding or photo shoot.
  • Active acne or rosacea flareInflamed, painful spots or a rosacea flare are not extracted. We treat once the flare has settled, or recommend LED first.
  • Retinoids and isotretinoinPause tretinoin, retinol and acids 3 to 5 days before. Oral isotretinoin in the last 6 months means we postpone the peel step.
  • Sunburn, cold sores, pregnancyWe do not treat sunburned or broken skin or an active cold sore. In pregnancy we skip the salicylic peel.

Your appointment

What happens during a HydraFacial?

Arrive with clean skin or we cleanse it for you. The practitioner checks for breakouts, sensitivity and recent treatments, then chooses the tip and peel strength for your skin.

The Signature facial takes about 30 minutes, the EVO Method about 45 and Platinum about 60. Each pass feels like a cool, wet vacuum gliding over the skin; the peel tingles for a few seconds. No numbing is needed.

You leave with slightly pink, very hydrated skin that settles within an hour. Makeup can go on the next morning. Sauna, pool, hard exercise and exfoliants wait 24 to 48 hours.

Questions

Questions before you book

How often should I have a HydraFacial?

The manufacturer recommends about once a month, because the skin renews its surface layer on roughly that cycle. For blackheads, oily skin or back congestion we start with 3 sessions 2 to 4 weeks apart, then maintain every 4 to 6 weeks. If your skin is in good condition, one session before an event or every 2 to 3 months is enough. More often than every 2 weeks adds nothing.

Signature, Platinum or EVO Method: which HydraFacial should I choose?

Your practitioner prepares an individual plan after assessing your goals, treatment area and suitability.

Does a HydraFacial hurt or leave my face red?

No. The suction feels like a cool, wet vacuum and the peel tingles for a few seconds. Extraction is done by the tip, not by squeezing, so there is no bruising. Most people are slightly pink for 30 to 60 minutes. Sensitive skin can stay pink for a few hours. You can go back to work straight after and wear makeup the next morning.

Is HydraFacial safe for dark skin?

Yes. A HydraFacial uses no laser, light or heat on the skin, so there is no risk of the light-induced pigmentation that limits lasers on darker skin. The imaging study of hydradermabrasion included skin types II to V. The peel is mild and buffered. Aggressive exfoliation can darken deeper skin tones, so we use the gentler tip and shorter peel time on Fitzpatrick V and VI skin.

Will a HydraFacial clear my acne?

It clears blackheads, whiteheads and clogged pores, and the salicylic peel and blue LED (Platinum) reduce oil and bacteria. It does not treat inflamed, cystic acne; extracting inflamed spots spreads bacteria and risks scarring, so we work around them or postpone. For active acne we usually recommend a doctor consultation first, then HydraFacial as maintenance once the inflammation is controlled.

Can I combine a HydraFacial with Botox, fillers or laser?

Yes, with spacing. Have the HydraFacial before injections, or wait 2 weeks after Botox or filler so the products are not massaged. Book it 5 to 7 days before IPL or laser so the light works on clean, even skin. A Restylane skin booster 3 to 10 days after a HydraFacial locks in hydration. Do not combine it with a chemical peel or microneedling within 7 to 14 days.

What a HydraFacial improves, by concern

Blackheads, clogged pores and oily skin

Congestion is the concern most of our HydraFacial patients book for, and the one where a single session shows the clearest change. The glycolic and salicylic peel loosens the plug of oil and dead cells, and the vortex tip pulls it out under vacuum. The nose, chin and forehead clear the most, which is why our before-and-after photographs concentrate there. Oily skin usually stays matte for one to two weeks after a session; the effect is on the surface, so it needs repeating every 4 to 6 weeks to hold.

Dull, dehydrated and rough skin

Dubai air conditioning and sun dehydrate the surface layer, and dry, dead cells scatter light, which reads as dullness. The exfoliation and extraction steps remove that layer, and the final infusion delivers hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants into freshly cleared skin. An imaging study of eight volunteers measured the surface layer thinning from 9.42 to 6.67 micrometres straight after treatment and settling at 9.75 micrometres, smoother and more even, two weeks later. That is the glow patients describe: it peaks on day 2 to 3 and lasts about two weeks.

Fine lines, pores and antioxidant levels

The 2008 study behind the treatment followed 20 women aged 34 to 56 through six sessions 7 to 10 days apart. Biopsies showed a thicker epidermis and papillary dermis, higher polyphenolic antioxidant levels in the skin, and smaller pores and fewer fine lines, with no complications. The control group, who had the same serum applied by hand, showed no change. The lesson is that the effect on lines and pores needs a course, not one visit, and that it comes from the delivery method, not the serum alone.

What a HydraFacial does not improve

The two-week imaging study found no change in the quality or quantity of collagen fibres in the dermis. A HydraFacial does not tighten loose skin, remove deep acne scars, treat melasma or remove sun spots. For loose skin we recommend ClearLift laser or radiofrequency; for pigmentation, IPL photofacial; for scars and deeper texture, a medical-depth peel. Our guide on what a HydraFacial can and cannot improve goes through each concern.

Back HydraFacial

Back congestion is common in people who train, wear tight clothing or sweat under a uniform. Shave heavy hair 24 hours before, arrive in loose clothing and change out of sweaty clothes promptly for the following days.

Men

Men book HydraFacial for the same reasons: blackheads on the nose, oily skin and rough texture after shaving. Shave at least 4 hours before so the skin is not freshly irritated when the peel goes on.

HydraFacial tiers, boosters and our other facials compared

The three tiers

The manufacturer structures the treatment as a core protocol plus add-ons. Signature is cleanse and exfoliate, peel, extraction and hydration. The next tier adds a booster serum matched to a concern and red or blue LED light. Platinum adds lymphatic drainage before the passes to reduce puffiness. Our EVO Method is the clinic protocol that concentrates additional passes and the booster on one target concern instead of spreading them evenly.

Boosters

Boosters are the concentrated serums infused in the final step. Manufacturer boosters contain peptides, hyaluronic acid or vitamin C and are chosen for dehydration, congestion, uneven tone, redness or fine lines. A booster is included in Platinum and EVO Method, not in Signature. If your main concern is pigmentation or lines, the booster is where the difference between tiers actually sits.

LED light

The LED step in Platinum uses red or blue light. Blue light targets the bacteria involved in acne; red light supports recovery and reduces redness after extraction. If you want LED without the full Platinum protocol, LED therapy is a separate treatment we can add to a Signature facial.

HydraFacial or a deep cleansing facial

Our deep cleansing facial extracts congestion manually after steaming. It reaches stubborn, deep comedones that the vortex tip leaves behind, but manual extraction can leave marks for a day or two. A HydraFacial is the choice when you need to look good the next day; the manual facial is the choice for a heavily congested skin that needs the deeper clean.

HydraFacial or a chemical peel

The HydraFacial peel is a low-strength glycolic and salicylic blend that is on the skin for seconds and rinsed by the handpiece; it does not make the skin flake. A chemical peel or the PRX-T33 peel goes deeper, produces visible peeling for several days and gives more change in pigmentation and texture. The two are not combined within 7 to 14 days of each other.

HydraFacial or carbon laser peel

A carbon laser peel heats a carbon layer with a laser to reduce oil and tighten pores. It works well on oily, olive to medium skin; on darker skin, any laser carries a pigmentation risk. A HydraFacial has no light or heat, which is why we recommend it for skin types V and VI and for anyone who is tanned.

HydraFacial or Dermadrop and skin boosters

A HydraFacial hydrates the surface for about two weeks. Dermadrop needle-free mesotherapy pushes serums deeper without needles and pairs well 3 to 10 days after a HydraFacial, when the surface is clear. A Restylane skin booster injects cross-linked hyaluronic acid that holds water in the dermis for months; it is the treatment for persistent dryness and crepey texture rather than surface dullness.

The device

HydraFacial is made by Hydrafacial LLC in the United States. Our device is an original unit bought through the official UAE distributor and serviced on the manufacturer's schedule; tips are single-use and opened in front of you. Solutions are the manufacturer's own. We are happy to show you the paperwork.

Preparation, aftercare and safety

Before your session

Stop tretinoin, retinol, glycolic or salicylic acid products and benzoyl peroxide 3 to 5 days before; the American Academy of Dermatology warns that exfoliating on top of these products worsens dryness and can trigger breakouts. Do not wax, thread or have laser on the face for 7 days before, or a chemical peel or microneedling for 14 days. Avoid sunbathing for a week; we never treat sunburned or broken skin. If you have had oral isotretinoin in the last 6 months, tell us; we postpone the peel step. If you get cold sores, take your antiviral beforehand, because exfoliation can trigger an outbreak.

After your session

For 24 hours skip sauna, steam, swimming pools, hot yoga and heavy workouts; heat and sweat on freshly exfoliated skin cause stinging and breakouts. For 48 hours use only a gentle cleanser and moisturiser, then restart acids and retinoids. Apply SPF 30 or higher every morning; the new surface layer is more sensitive to sun for about a week and unprotected sun is the main cause of dark marks after any exfoliation. Do not pick at anything that surfaces in the first days; the American Academy of Dermatology links squeezing to scarring and dark spots. Makeup is fine from the next morning.

Side effects

Expected: pinkness for 30 to 60 minutes, a tight feeling for a few hours, and on oily skin a few small spots surfacing in the first days as loosened plugs clear. Uncommon: redness or stinging lasting a day on sensitive skin, a mild flare of rosacea, or a reaction to a serum ingredient. Rare: a cold sore outbreak, or temporary darker patches on deeper skin tones if the peel was too strong, which is why we shorten the peel time on Fitzpatrick V and VI. Tell us the same day about any reaction that is getting worse rather than settling.

Who should wait or not have a HydraFacial

  • Active inflamed or cystic acne on the area: we treat once it has settled, or work around it. - A rosacea, eczema or psoriasis flare on the area; the NHS lists heat and sunlight among rosacea triggers, and exfoliation adds to that. - Sunburn, open skin, an active cold sore or a skin infection. - Oral isotretinoin in the last 6 months. - Allergy to salicylic acid or aspirin: we skip the salicylic peel. - Pregnancy or breastfeeding: we skip the salicylic peel and use the gentler protocol. - Botox or filler in the last 2 weeks, or any laser, peel or microneedling in the last 7 to 14 days.

Questions

Preparation and recovery questions

Can I wear makeup after a HydraFacial?

Wait until the next morning. Skin is pink for 30 to 60 minutes and the infused serums keep absorbing for a few hours; makeup on top wastes that. Use only a gentle cleanser and moisturiser that evening. From the next day, normal makeup is fine; non-comedogenic products are better for the first week if you are acne-prone.

Can I exercise or go to the beach afterwards?

Wait 24 hours for the gym, sauna, steam room and swimming pool. Sweat and chlorine sting freshly exfoliated skin and can cause breakouts. Sun waits about a week: the new surface layer burns and pigments more easily, so wear SPF 30 or higher every morning and a hat at the beach. Do not have a HydraFacial on skin that is already sunburned.

When can I restart retinol and acids?

Restart 48 hours after the session. The peel and exfoliation have already removed the dead surface layer, so acids and retinoids on top in the first two days cause stinging, dryness and redness without adding benefit. Stop them again 3 to 5 days before your next session.

Why did I break out a few days after my HydraFacial?

On oily or congested skin, a few small spots in the first 3 to 5 days are loosened plugs surfacing from pores that the vacuum opened but did not fully clear. They resolve on their own within a week; do not squeeze them. A breakout that is spreading, painful or lasting longer is not normal; message us the same day so we can look at it.
