Soprano or Alexandrite: choosing a hair-removal laser

Soprano and Alexandrite both reduce unwanted hair, but they do not deliver laser energy in the same way. At Evolution Clinic, we choose your treatment after checking the hair, the skin and the area you want treated.

What is different about the devices?

Our Soprano services use the Platinum/Titanium family. Titanium combines three wavelengths in a diode platform, while our Smartrion Alexandrite treatment uses a 755 nm alexandrite laser. A shared wavelength does not make two platforms identical: delivery method, cooling and settings also matter. Alma describes the Titanium wavelengths; IDS describes its Smartrion technology.

That distinction is useful when comparing a treatment you have tried elsewhere. Tell us its name and how your skin responded, rather than choosing only from the words “diode” or “Alexandrite”. We will explain the device proposed for your appointment.

Skin tone is part of the choice

A laser needs to target the hair while limiting unwanted heating of the surrounding skin. Your natural skin tone, recent sun exposure and hair colour all affect that balance. Very light hair may not respond well. A current tan can change an otherwise suitable treatment plan.

We assess each area separately. The bikini line and lower legs, for example, may not have the same hair thickness or skin colour. Selecting one platform does not mean using one setting everywhere. We may postpone treatment or recommend a different approach if the expected benefit is limited.

Compare the course, not one appointment

Useful questions include which areas are included, how progress will be reviewed and what happens if regrowth remains. “Full body” is not a universal package definition. Our women's Soprano and Alexandrite full-body services exclude the face, chest and back; men's full-body services exclude the face. We confirm your exact selection and total price before consent.

Repeated visits are usually needed with either method. Hair reduction and skin recovery both matter when planning the next visit. Neither option guarantees that you will never need maintenance. General expectations and risks are explained in the AAD hair-removal guide.

What we discuss before treatment

Tell us about previous laser reactions, tanning, medicines and skin problems. We explain discomfort, pigment change and other material risks, then provide written preparation and aftercare. More pain is not a measure of better treatment.
