Scalp
Micropigmentation
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical pigment technique that creates the look of fuller hair by placing tiny, colour-matched dots that mimic real follicles. It is ideal for thinning hair, receding hairlines, patchy beards, and scar camouflage after hair transplant. The result looks like a clean buzz cut or shaded density through longer hair. Sessions have minimal downtime and you see a clear improvement right away. At Evolution Aesthetics we offer Scalp Micropigmentation small area for localised concerns and Retouch for scalp to refresh previous work. Our team focuses on natural hairline design and pigment tones that fit your skin and hair colour.
Instant density, no surgery, and natural results that hold up in real life
Hairlines designed with millimetre precision
We map and build hairlines to suit your face shape, age, and goals for a realistic finish.
Visible improvement after the first session
You leave with a clearer hairline and a denser look, even as layering continues in later visits.
No surgery or grafts
SMP uses micro-dots of cosmetic pigment to simulate follicles without incisions or recovery from surgery.
Long-wearing pigments with gradual, even fade
Cosmetic-grade pigments retain tone for years and soften slowly, making maintenance simple.
Short appointments and minimal downtime
Most clients return to everyday activities the same or next day.
Low discomfort with topical numbing
Most describe the feeling as light scratching; numbing gel can be used if needed.
Microscopic pigment dots mimic real follicles for a natural buzz-cut effect
Scalp Micropigmentation places thousands of micro-dots of pigment into the upper dermis to imitate shaved hair follicles or soft shadowing through existing hair. Using a digital device with sterile, single-use micro-needles, our practitioner controls depth (typically around 0.6–1.2 mm), dot size, spacing, and angle to match the look of natural stubble. Cosmetic-grade, carbon-based pigments are diluted to suit your hair colour and skin tone, then layered over 2–4 sessions to build realistic density and gradient. Hairline edges are feathered for a soft, age-appropriate finish, while different needle groupings help blend scars or small gaps. Because correct depth and dot spacing are crucial, we map each zone and allow healing time between sessions so the shade settles before the next layer. We perform tailored versions including Scalp micropigmentation small area for focused coverage and Retouch for scalp to refresh previous SMP work.Contraindications
SMP may not be suitable for everyone. Please review the list below and speak with our practitioner for personalised guidance.
- Active scalp conditions: infection, dermatitis, psoriasis flare, or open wounds.
- History of keloid scarring or hypertrophic scars.
- Uncontrolled diabetes or significant clotting disorders.
- Use of blood-thinning medication (doctor’s approval required).
- Allergy to pigments, inks, or topical anaesthetics (consider a patch test).
- Recent isotretinoin use within the last 6 months.
- Recent hair transplant (wait until fully healed; typically 6–12 months for scar work).
- Severe sunburn on the scalp or recent intense tanning.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Active acne cysts on the scalp.
Few sessions, long wear: predictable results that last for years
Most clients need 2–4 SMP sessions to reach full density and refine the hairline. Sessions are usually spaced 10–14 days apart to let pigment settle; each visit typically lasts 1.5–3 hours depending on coverage. Small area work (for a patch, part line, or scar) is often shorter, while a full scalp or crown may require more time. Expect the colour to lighten by 20–30% after the first week, with depth and realism increasing as layers build. Results commonly last 3–5 years before a light Retouch for scalp is needed to refresh tone or adjust the hairline. Before your appointment: avoid sunburn and tanning on the scalp for 1 week, skip alcohol and caffeine on the day, wash and lightly moisturise the scalp, and avoid hair fibres or thick styling products. Arrive with hair clipped short if you prefer a buzzed finish. Aftercare: keep the area dry for 3 days, avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, and hats that rub for 4–7 days, and do not pick or scratch. From day 4, gently cleanse and moisturise; avoid shaving the treated area for 4 days. Limit sun exposure and use a high SPF on the scalp from day 7 onward to protect pigment tone. Maintenance varies by lifestyle and sun exposure, but many clients return for a simple retouch every 12–36 months. What goes well with Scalp Micropigmentation?
- PRP Hair Treatment (Plasma Therapy)Strengthens thinning hair around the pigment, making the hairline look fuller and more natural. Also supports scalp recovery after SMP and can improve overall longevity of the result.
- Exosomes Against HairlossDelivers cell-to-cell signals that can wake up sluggish follicles over time. Better hair density helps SMP blend seamlessly with real hair for a more convincing look.
- Scalp Skin Cell Detox Against Hair LossDeep-cleans the scalp from oil, product build-up, and dead skin so pigment sits evenly and heals clean. Ideal 1–2 weeks before SMP for smoother, more even results.
- LED TherapyRed and near-infrared light calms redness and speeds recovery after SMP. It can also support better pigment retention in the first weeks.
- Tatoo Laser Removal by Q-switched Nd:YAG LaserIf you have old scalp tattooing or uneven SMP, selective laser fading clears the area for a fresh redesign. This helps achieve crisp hairlines and more precise shading.
