Botox aftercare starts with a clear treatment plan. Tell us about your health, medicines and previous injections before your appointment. Afterwards, handle the treated area gently, avoid rubbing or massage, and follow the written instructions we give you for activity and follow-up.

At Evolution Clinic, our trained, licensed doctors assess you in person, explain the product and price before consent, and provide aftercare for your treatment. If you are still deciding, our Botox treatment page explains the areas we assess and how to book.

What should I prepare before my appointment?

Bring a list of prescription medicines, medicines you buy without a prescription, vitamins and supplements. Include blood thinners, pain medicines, recent antibiotics and muscle relaxants. Tell us about previous botulinum toxin treatment anywhere on your body, including the product, date and any unwanted effects.

We also need to know about allergies, nerve or muscle conditions, swallowing or breathing problems, recent surgery, pregnancy, plans for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell us if there is an infection, wound or rash near the area you want treated. The AAD preparation guide explains the value of a full medical and treatment history.

Do not stop a prescribed medicine because an online checklist tells you to. If a medicine affects the treatment decision, our doctor can discuss it with the prescriber who manages your care.

Describe the change you want, including facial movement you want to keep. You do not need to choose a dose or copy another person’s treatment map. We assess your anatomy and explain suitable options.

How should I plan the day?

Allow time for consultation, questions and consent. Tell us about travel, exercise, physical work, a facial or dental appointment, or an important event you have planned. We can then explain how those plans fit with your treatment and follow-up.

Do not expect an immediate finished result. Changes develop over days, and bruising or swelling may be visible. A first treatment immediately before a major event leaves little time to assess the response. Our Botox results timeline explains what can change during the first month.

What should I do after Botox?

Handle the treated area gently

Keep the area clean and avoid rubbing, firm pressure or massage. Ask us when to resume a facial, facial massage or another skin treatment. The advice depends on the area and the treatment you plan next.

A brief accidental touch is not a reason to assume that your result is ruined. Avoid repeated pressure and contact us if you are concerned. AAD aftercare guidance advises against rubbing or massaging injection areas.

Follow the exercise timing in your written plan

Most people can return to normal light activities. Strenuous exercise needs a separate instruction. Professional advice varies: the AAD advises a two-hour wait, while this NHS treatment guide advises 24 hours.

We give you the interval for your treatment. Tell us before the appointment if your work or sport makes it difficult to follow. Do not assume that a rule for forehead injections covers every body area.

Check when to apply makeup and skin products

Use the instructions we give you about makeup and skin care. When makeup is permitted, apply it gently without pressing or rubbing the sites. Ask before using a strong active product or arranging a treatment that applies pressure to the area.

Do I have to stay upright for four hours?

Many aftercare checklists give exact rules about posture, sleep, heat and exercise. Those intervals are not equally supported by evidence. A large retrospective study of upper-face treatment questioned extended restrictions, but it had no control group and cannot prove that all precautions are unnecessary.

Follow our written plan and ask if a restriction is unclear. If you briefly lie down or bend forward, that action alone does not tell you whether the treatment will work. Do not try to compensate with facial exercises, rubbing or another dose.

Can I fly, use a sauna or drink alcohol?

There is no single interval that fits every treatment and patient. Tell us your plans so we can give advice that accounts for your health, medicines, treated area and access to follow-up. Keep our contact details and your treatment record with you when travelling.

A claim that flying or heat will automatically make Botox fail is not a useful substitute for an individual aftercare plan.

What should prompt a call to the clinic?

Mild tenderness, redness, swelling or bruising can follow injections. Contact us if symptoms increase, do not settle or worry you. A new eyelid or brow droop, uneven smile, eye irritation, significant pain, or signs of infection need assessment.

Do not arrange a correction elsewhere or assume that an early uneven appearance requires extra medicine. We review the symptom, its timing and your treatment record. Our Botox safety guide explains possible unwanted effects in more detail.

Which symptoms need emergency care?

Get emergency medical help immediately for trouble breathing, swallowing or speaking, or a severe allergic reaction. New widespread muscle weakness or double or blurred vision also needs urgent medical assessment. Do not wait for a clinic message if symptoms are serious.

Botulinum toxin effects can sometimes occur away from the injection area hours to weeks later. Tell the medical team the product and date of treatment. These warnings are included in official BOTOX Cosmetic information.

Keep the written aftercare, treatment details and agreed review date together. If you are unsure about an instruction, contact us. A clear question is more useful than trying to correct the result yourself.
