Volnewmer is an option when your treatment plan calls for radiofrequency heating. Volformer adds a different energy type: focused ultrasound at selected tissue depths. That gives our doctors separate tools for planning the ultrasound and RF steps. It can be a useful reason to choose Volformer when both are appropriate for your skin and facial shape.

Book a consultation to compare an RF-only plan with combined HIFU and RF. We assess your skin, facial volume and goals before recommending treatment. There is no direct clinical evidence that Volnewmer or Volformer produces better results than XERF for everyone.

XERF vs Volnewmer: what changes between the devices?

Both are non-invasive monopolar radiofrequency systems. They deliver electrical energy that generates heat in tissue. Neither is a laser or a HIFU device.

XERF combines 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz RF. Its manufacturer describes three depth settings, feedback that measures tissue electrical resistance, and cryogen cooling to control surface temperature. XERF therefore should not be described as a treatment for superficial skin only. See the XERF manufacturer specifications.

Volnewmer uses 6.78 MHz monopolar RF. It has continuous contact water cooling, adjustable vibration and different applicator sizes. Cooling and vibration help manage the sensation of treatment; applicator choice helps the doctor work across the selected area. These are concrete features of our RF option, but they do not prove less pain or greater safety than XERF. See CLASSYS Volnewmer information and its device specifications.

The useful question is whether RF alone fits your concern. If it does, adding ultrasound simply to use a second device is unnecessary.

Why consider Volformer instead of an RF-only treatment?

Volformer combines two ways of delivering heat. Ultraformer focuses ultrasound into small treatment points at selected depths. Volnewmer delivers RF heating across a broader tissue area. We use the devices in sequence within one planned session, rather than firing them together.

This offers three practical benefits when both energy types are indicated:

  • Separate planning for different tissue targets. The doctor can choose the ultrasound focal depth and treatment pattern separately from the RF settings and coverage.
  • One plan for more than one concern. If assessment supports treating both skin firmness and deeper tissue laxity, the plan can include both energy types.
  • A combined appointment. Suitable patients can receive the two planned treatment steps in one visit, with a coordinated aftercare plan.

These are reasons to consider Volformer as a XERF alternative. They are not proof of a stronger lift, longer-lasting results or a better outcome. XERF also offers treatment at different depths; Volformer's distinction is the combination of RF and focused ultrasound.

Our Volnewmer vs HIFU guide explains the two energy types in more detail.

Does a lower RF frequency mean a deeper or better treatment?

An RF frequency in MHz is not a treatment depth in millimetres. Tissue heating also depends on the applicator, energy delivery, cooling and tissue properties. Comparing 2 MHz with 6.78 MHz alone cannot tell you which device will produce the result you want.

HIFU cartridge depth is a different specification. Ultraformer MPT has nominal facial focal depths including 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.5 mm. These are selectable focal settings, not an instruction to treat every depth. See the CLASSYS product specifications.

Faces differ in skin thickness, fat distribution and the position of deeper structures. A 4.5 mm setting does not identify the same anatomical layer in every face. Our doctor chooses areas and settings after assessment. Preserving facial volume matters; treating more depths is not automatically better.

What does the clinical evidence show?

Volnewmer has published human studies. One retrospective study assessed 30 women with three-dimensional imaging after treatment. It reported short-term changes, but had one-month follow-up and no untreated or XERF comparison group. It cannot establish superiority or long-term duration. Read the original Volnewmer study.

A study of 24 Korean adults tested the order of same-day Volnewmer and CLASSYS focused ultrasound treatment, with 90-day follow-up. It used Shurink Universe, rather than the Ultraformer MPT in our clinic protocol. It compared treatment sequences, not the combination against XERF or either device alone. It therefore does not prove that two devices outperform one. See the 2025 combination study.

XERF also has human evidence, including a retrospective report of 16 patients with three-month follow-up. Small studies with different methods cannot provide a reliable ranking between devices. See the 2026 XERF study.

Comfort, recovery and choosing a suitable plan

Cooling does not make treatment sensation-free. We explain expected discomfort, possible reactions and material risks before consent. Heat-based treatment can cause redness, swelling or tenderness; burns and unwanted tissue injury are also risks. Ultrasound can also cause altered sensation, nerve symptoms or unwanted fat loss. We defer elective treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Electronic implants, active skin infection and poor healing can make treatment unsuitable. Tell us about medicines, implants and recent aesthetic treatments so we can assess suitability and timing.

We provide written aftercare and a route for follow-up. Read our Volnewmer side effects and aftercare guide. For expectations over time, read how long Volnewmer results last. Neither treatment comes with a guaranteed result or duration.

Questions about XERF alternatives

Is Volnewmer better than XERF?

There is no established universal winner. Volnewmer offers monopolar RF with continuous water cooling and adjustable vibration. XERF uses dual-frequency RF with cryogen cooling. We recommend our available treatment only when it fits your assessment and goals.

Is Volformer the same as XERF plus HIFU?

No. Volformer uses Volnewmer RF and Ultraformer ultrasound. It does not contain XERF. Its practical difference is that the doctor can plan two energy types in one session.

Do I need both RF and HIFU?

Not necessarily. Your skin and facial volume may support RF alone, a combined plan or another approach. Contact Evolution Clinic for an assessment in Jumeira, Dubai. We explain the recommended treatment, alternatives, risks and total price before you consent.
