What do 755 nm and 1064 nm mean?

These numbers describe the wavelength of the light. Alexandrite hair-removal lasers use 755 nm; long-pulsed Nd:YAG uses 1064 nm. How the energy interacts with hair and surrounding skin differs, so a practitioner must consider more than the colour of the hair alone.

Why skin assessment comes first

We consider natural skin tone, tanning, the location of the hair and any previous skin reaction. Different areas can require different decisions. Dark hair against lighter skin may offer a useful contrast, while greater skin pigmentation requires particular care to limit unwanted skin heating.

Do not choose your own settings from a skin-type chart or a treatment photograph. Tell us how your skin reacts to sun and whether it has changed recently. A laser decision made before a holiday may need to be reviewed afterwards.

Is combining lasers necessarily better?

No. In one small randomized study of leg hair, both Alexandrite and Nd:YAG produced lasting reduction. Combining the two did not improve the result and caused more pain and pigment reactions. The trial involved a specific group and protocol; it does not establish a universal winner or compare our exact clinic devices. Read the primary trial.

That is why “more wavelengths” and “stronger settings” should not replace a clinical reason for the treatment choice. We aim for useful reduction with an acceptable risk for your skin.

What to bring to your consultation

Bring the name of any previous laser treatment, the areas treated and information about reactions or regrowth. We also review medicines and skin conditions. We explain whether Alexandrite is suitable, whether an alternative needs consideration and how progress will be assessed.
