SkinPen aftercare protects freshly treated skin while it recovers. Use the plan supplied for your appointment; instructions for a different facial or needling device can conflict with SkinPen guidance.
The first 24 hours
The manufacturer’s international aftercare sheet advises against additional products, including cleanser, during the first 24 hours. Cool water can be used as directed. This is not the time to add an active serum, a new moisturiser or makeup because the skin feels dry.
Avoid sun exposure during this initial period. Do not interpret a general recommendation to wear sunscreen as permission to apply it immediately to freshly treated skin when your SkinPen instructions say otherwise. We explain the products and timing before you leave.
After the initial period
The manufacturer guidance allows sunscreen after 24 hours and continued reduction of sun exposure for 72 hours. It also advises avoiding strenuous exercise or excessive sweating for 72 hours and active skincare such as retinoids or vitamin C for a week. Your clinician explains how this fits your skin and actual treatment.
Keep your routine simple. Do not introduce several products at once or try to speed recovery with strong exfoliation. Ask us if you are unsure which of your usual products counts as an active.
What reactions can occur?
Redness, tenderness and sensitivity can follow needling. Their extent varies. Allow time for visible recovery when scheduling events or work rather than assume your skin will look unchanged the next morning.
A worsening reaction is different from a routine recovery description. Contact the clinic for increasing redness, warmth, pain, discharge, persistent rash or a concern about healing. Rapid allergic symptoms or difficulty breathing need urgent medical care.
Can I add a serum to the channels?
Do not treat fresh needle channels as an opportunity to add skincare or biological products. The treatment and aftercare products must be appropriate for the device and your skin. More ingredients do not mean more benefit.
When should I return?
Return for the review arranged with your clinician. We assess recovery and the original concern before advising another treatment. Do not book a peel, laser or injection on the same area just because surface redness has faded.
For planning a course, read how many SkinPen sessions you may need. Aftercare and useful review are part of the course, not separate tasks to work out alone.
