There is no single SkinPen session count that suits every scar pattern or treatment goal. We assess your skin, explain what may improve and review the response before recommending further treatment.
The acne-scar study supporting SkinPen Precision evaluated three treatments about 30 days apart, with later review. This is a study example, not a guarantee that three visits will meet your goal. FDA study review, registered study.
Why does scar type matter?
Acne scars vary in shape and depth. Some are shallow depressions; others are deeper or held down by underlying tissue. One face can have several patterns. A device that improves one part of the texture may not correct every scar.
We also consider active acne. If new inflammatory lesions keep forming, the plan may need to address the acne first instead of focusing only on its earlier marks.
What does a course aim to achieve?
A useful goal is an improvement in the appearance of suitable scars, not complete erasure. We discuss the area, expected degree of change and the limits before you agree to a course.
The SkinPen manufacturer FAQ describes multiple treatments commonly spaced around four weeks apart. That is a general description, not a personal prescription. Recovery, the current device instructions and your clinician’s assessment determine your plan.
When should progress be reviewed?
Review after the early treatment reaction has settled and at the interval agreed with your clinician. Redness or swelling can temporarily change the appearance of texture, so photographs taken immediately after a session are a poor measure of lasting improvement.
Use similar lighting, camera distance and expression. Compare the same scar area rather than choose the most flattering image from each date. Tell us whether the change is meaningful to you as well as whether it is visible in a photograph.
Is another session always useful?
No. If the response is limited, we reassess the target and whether another approach is more appropriate. More sessions should have a reason; they are not automatically helpful because a package has visits remaining.
A difficult recovery also changes the discussion. Report unusual pain, irritation, pigment change or healing problems before repeating treatment. Do not try to compensate for a small result by asking for greater intensity.
