Radiesse recovery can include swelling, tenderness or bruising, but not every reaction should be watched at home. We explain common effects and urgent warning signs before treatment and give you product-specific aftercare.
Common reactions still need attention
Redness, swelling, pain, itching and bruising can occur after injection. Their severity and duration differ. Tell us when a reaction is getting worse, affects normal activity or falls outside the recovery advice you were given.
A new lump, delayed inflammation or a change some time after treatment also deserves assessment. Note when it started and tell the doctor about any recent illness, dental work or other treatment. Do not assume that the age of the injection rules out a treatment-related issue.
Recognize urgent symptoms
Rarely, filler can affect blood supply. Severe or unusual pain, pale, grey or blue skin, a visual change or stroke-like symptoms need immediate medical attention. Contact the clinic urgently as well; do not wait for a scheduled follow-up. Breathing difficulty or a serious allergic reaction is also an emergency. FDA filler risk information.
Spreading redness, increasing warmth, discharge or fever can indicate a problem needing prompt medical review. Do not decide on antibiotics, steroids, massage or a dissolving treatment from an online description.
Why the product matters
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite. The medicine used to dissolve some hyaluronic acid fillers does not simply reverse it. A suspected complication therefore needs a diagnosis and a plan from an appropriately qualified doctor.
Formulations also differ. For example, a lidocaine-containing product adds local-anaesthetic considerations. Tell us about previous reactions to fillers or anaesthetics, serious allergies, bleeding conditions and current medicines. Do not stop prescribed medicine on your own. Follow the plan you receive
Your written instructions cover exercise, heat and sun exposure, skincare and other treatments. The manufacturer's general advice includes avoiding strenuous activity and extensive heat or sun during early recovery, but your doctor may need to adapt the plan to the treated area and your history.
Do not press, knead or massage the area unless instructed. A massage routine taught for Sculptra is not automatically a Radiesse instruction. Avoid planning another treatment before the area has been reviewed when there is a persistent reaction.
Tell other clinicians about prior Radiesse
The material may be visible on X-ray or CT images. If you have medical imaging, mention the area and product used and bring your record if available. This helps the imaging team interpret what they see; it is not a reason to avoid necessary medical care.
