The material changes the decision
Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid. It is used for a gradual response rather than immediate shaping with a hyaluronic acid gel. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a carrier gel. It can provide an early filling effect as well as a later tissue response. Early swelling can affect how either treatment looks.
Neither product should be treated as a routine hyaluronic acid filler that can simply be dissolved on request. This matters if your priority is reversibility. We discuss that preference before choosing a product. Sculptra product information, Radiesse product information.
Compare the goal, not the syringe size
A plan for cheek lines, a loss of facial support or a specific contour is not the same plan. The doctor examines the area at rest and in movement, checks existing filler and considers skin and soft-tissue thickness. More product is not automatically a better solution.
Sculptra's 10 ml booking description and a Radiesse 1.5 ml service are not equivalent units of treatment value. The materials and preparation differ.
What does the clinical evidence cover?
A Sculptra trial studied cheek wrinkles and followed patients for 12 months. A separate Radiesse study assessed jawline contour using a particular lidocaine-containing formulation. The exact product and treatment approach matter. We do not transfer a claim from one formulation, body area or protocol to another. A facial assessment also cannot automatically establish suitability for body treatment.
Recovery and risk are part of the comparison
Both treatments can cause bruising, swelling, tenderness and lumps. Persistent or delayed changes need assessment. Injection into a blood vessel can cause severe injury. Unusual pain, pale or discoloured skin and visual symptoms require urgent medical help.
Aftercare is product-specific. A massage routine taught after Sculptra should not be copied to Radiesse unless your treating doctor directs it. Tell us about previous filler, allergies, medicines and planned treatments so we can assess the whole sequence.
When another option makes more sense
Neither product replaces a treatment for expression-driven lines, an assessment of substantial skin laxity or surgery when that is the more suitable option. You can also choose to leave a concern untreated. We discuss alternatives without treating a combination of several injectables as the default.
