There is no single lifespan for hyaluronic acid filler. Product, treated area, amount, starting anatomy and individual response all affect the visible result. We explain the expected review plan for your treatment instead of giving one expiry date for every filler.
As a broad orientation, the American Academy of Dermatology gives about 4–12 months for hyaluronic acid gel fillers. This is a general range, not a limit or a forecast for every formulation and facial area. We explain the expected duration for the exact product and area proposed. AAD filler guidance.
Visible change and remaining material are different
A result can become less noticeable as your face changes or the product effect reduces. That does not tell you exactly how much material remains. Do not assume a faded effect means the area is empty and needs the same amount again.
At review, we assess appearance, movement, previous treatment and any concern you have. The decision can be to wait, use a different approach or have no further treatment. Repeating a calendar-based top-up without assessment can miss what has changed.
Product names need more detail
Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero are product families. Different formulations are intended for different uses. A duration from a lip study is not automatically a duration for cheeks, tear troughs or superficial lines.
Likewise, a 1 ml service label describes a booking unit, not a personal requirement. The useful comparison is the proposed product, area, treatment goal and total plan. Ask us to record the exact product used so you have that information for future care.
Early swelling is not longevity
The first days after an injection can include swelling or bruising. A later reduction in that swelling is not the same thing as the filler wearing off. We explain when to assess the settled result and what changes need an earlier review.
Take comparison photographs in similar light and with a relaxed expression. A close camera, different head angle or strong smile can change shadows and proportions. The photograph is a record of appearance, not a test of the material's location or amount.
Can lifestyle make it last longer?
Healthy skincare and sun protection are sensible, but no routine can guarantee filler duration. Avoid plans that promise to preserve filler through a supplement, massage or repeated add-on treatment without a clear medical reason. Follow the aftercare for your actual product and treated area.
Tell us about planned dental work or other cosmetic treatments. We can assess timing rather than apply the same interval to every combination. AAD filler questions.
When review is more urgent than maintenance
A persistent lump, new inflammation or unwanted shape needs assessment before more filler is considered. Unusual pain, a significant colour change or a visual symptom after injection requires urgent medical care. Read our filler side-effects guide.
Dissolving HA filler can be considered in selected circumstances, but it is another medical decision with risks. It is not a reason to keep adding product or a promise that all consequences can be reversed.
For an individual plan, see our dermal filler treatment page. If your concern is lips, lip-filler duration considers that area separately.
