Dermal fillers and Botox address different causes of facial lines. Fillers add material to selected tissues; botulinum toxin changes muscle activity. We first assess what causes your concern rather than treating the two as interchangeable choices.
Movement and volume are different
An expression line changes when you smile, frown or raise your eyebrows. A hollow or loss of support may remain when your face is relaxed. Those observations are useful to discuss with a doctor, but they are not enough to diagnose yourself or choose an injection.
Skin texture, pigmentation and substantial looseness add other possibilities. A line can have more than one cause. Neither filler nor botulinum toxin is a universal treatment for all visible signs of ageing.
What a filler can do
Hyaluronic acid filler can support selected contours or soften certain folds by placing material in tissue. The formulation, anatomy and intended area matter. A soft product suitable for one purpose is not automatically suitable for another.
At Evolution Clinic, our facial filler services include assessment of cheeks, chin, temples, selected folds and other defined concerns. Lip assessment is separate. An area appearing on a service list does not mean filler is the right option for every person. AAD filler overview.
What Botox can do
Botulinum toxin treatment can soften suitable expression lines by reducing selected muscle activity temporarily. It does not fill a hollow with gel. We assess muscle movement and your goals, explain the proposed product and plan, and discuss how the effect may change your expression.
Read our existing Botox treatment page and Botox safety guide for more detail. A decision about Botox does not establish a need for filler as well.
Their risks are not identical
Both involve medical assessment and informed consent. Filler can cause swelling, bruising, lumps and infection; accidental injection into a vessel can damage tissue or vision. Botulinum toxin has a different adverse-effect profile, including unwanted weakness. Your doctor explains the material risks of the specific treatment proposed.
Do not judge safety by how small the needle looks or how quickly an appointment can be completed. Unusual pain, marked skin-colour change or visual symptoms after filler require immediate medical help. FDA filler guidance.
Does combining them make sense?
Sometimes a doctor identifies separate concerns, but a combination is not the default. You can agree to one part of a plan or decide not to proceed. We explain alternatives before asking for consent.
Bring information about previous injections, even if they were done elsewhere. Tell us about medicines, allergies and any recovery problem. The facial filler consultation is where we compare the options for your face, not where we match a preselected amount to an online image.
