What does Sofwave do?
Sofwave uses parallel ultrasound beams to heat the middle layer of the skin. Published research describes treatment around 1.5 mm below the surface, intended to stimulate collagen and elastin renewal. A study of 36 participants found improvements in lower-face lines at follow-up. It did not compare Sofwave with Ultraformer MPT. Read the clinical study.
Sofwave’s targeted approach can support firmer skin and a more lifted appearance. A separate small trial reported improvements in brow, under-chin and neck skin laxity. Read the facial-laxity study.
What does Ultraformer MPT offer?
Ultraformer MPT uses focused ultrasound with different cartridges and treatment modes. Its facial cartridge range includes 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.5 mm depths. That gives the treating doctor options for different planned tissue levels. See the manufacturer's specifications.
At our clinic, we use this flexibility to plan the area and treatment coverage after examining you. A concern concentrated along the jawline may need a different plan from changes across the face and neck. We explain which areas we recommend treating and why.
Deeper treatment is not automatically better. A naturally lean cheek needs particular care because unwanted loss of facial volume can work against your goal. We assess whether skin tightening is appropriate before recommending it.
Is Ultraformer a good alternative to Sofwave?
It is an option to discuss when your concern is facial skin laxity. The useful question is whether our treatment fits your anatomy and the degree of change you want. We cannot promise that one device produces a stronger result for everyone.

If your main concern is marked excess skin, lost facial volume or a large structural change, ultrasound tightening may not meet your expectations. We explain these limits during your consultation.
What about pain and recovery?
You can feel heat or discomfort during ultrasound treatment. Temporary redness, tenderness or swelling can follow. With focused ultrasound, burns, persistent altered sensation and unwanted volume loss are possible. Tell us about previous fillers, threads, energy treatments, implants and skin conditions before treatment. Contact us promptly for blisters, increasing pain or new weakness after treatment.
We plan your review so that temporary swelling is not mistaken for the final result. Comfort and recovery vary with the area, settings and your individual response.
