Sculptra can cause short-term injection reactions and, less commonly, delayed lumps or serious complications. We explain these risks before treatment and give you a clear plan for aftercare and follow-up.

Common reactions and how to follow them
Tenderness, bruising, swelling, redness or itching can occur around treated areas. Their extent varies. A reaction that is worsening, unusually painful or different from the advice you received deserves a call to the clinic; do not rely only on how another person's recovery looked.
Keep your written aftercare nearby. Note when a change started and where it is, so you can describe it clearly to the treating team. We may need to examine you. A photograph sent for review does not replace an urgent examination when serious symptoms are present.
Lumps need the right assessment
Not every lump has the same cause. Early swelling and a later persistent nodule need different assessment. Delayed nodules can occur after a collagen-stimulator injection. Tell us about a lump that persists, grows, becomes tender or develops redness, even if the injection was some time ago.
Do not squeeze it, use an at-home needle or choose an online treatment for it. Do not assume it can be dissolved like a hyaluronic acid filler. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, so an HA dissolving treatment is not a simple reversal. Manufacturer safety information.
Symptoms that cannot wait
An injection can rarely affect a blood vessel. Unusual or severe pain, skin turning white, grey or blue, any visual change or stroke-like symptoms require immediate medical attention. Contact the clinic urgently as well. Do not wait until the next day or try massage first. Filler risk guidance.
Spreading redness, increasing heat, discharge or feeling unwell can also need prompt assessment. Breathing difficulty or signs of a severe allergic reaction require emergency help.
Follow the instructions for your product
Sculptra aftercare can include a specific massage routine taught by the doctor. Follow the plan you receive, including where, how gently and for how long to massage. Do not transfer instructions for another injectable to Sculptra, and do not use routine massage advice to delay help for warning signs.
Your doctor also advises when to resume exercise, heat exposure, skin products and other cosmetic treatments. Tell us about any upcoming dental work or skin treatment so we can consider the timing. There is no single online timetable that fits every treatment area and medical history.
What we check before treatment
We review allergy and scarring history, current skin infection, medicines, supplements and previous cosmetic injections. Bring past product records if you have them. Do not stop prescribed medicine without the prescriber's advice. We may advise postponing treatment or choosing another option.
