PRP and minoxidil are different options for some forms of hair loss. The useful question is which plan fits your diagnosis, health and routine, rather than which name is more popular.
How are they different?
PRP involves drawing and processing your blood, then injecting platelet-rich plasma into the scalp during clinic visits. Minoxidil is a medicine that may be prescribed or recommended in a suitable formulation as part of a hair-loss plan. We do not choose a medicine or dose from a photograph alone.
The AAD describes both approaches within diagnosis-led hair-loss care. Neither should be presented as a universal answer to every type of thinning.
Consider the practical commitment
PRP requires appointments, injections and a discussion of follow-up and maintenance. A topical treatment requires a routine you can sustain. If you have tried minoxidil, tell us how consistently you used it, whether your scalp tolerated it and why you stopped.
A plan that looks suitable on paper may not fit your daily life. We discuss that openly rather than assuming that clinic visits or home treatment are automatically easier for you.
Can they be used in the same plan?
Sometimes more than one approach is considered, but combining treatments needs a clinical reason. Do not add scalp injections or change a medicine schedule on your own. Tell us about all products and supplements you use so that we can review the complete plan.
PRP evidence remains mixed. In a randomized study, hair density improved on both PRP and placebo-treated sides without a significant difference between them. That supports a careful discussion of uncertainty, not a promise that adding PRP will always improve a medicine-based result.
What if treatment has not helped?
First check the diagnosis, the time allowed to assess response and how the treatment was used. Persistent inflammation, sudden change or another suspected cause of hair loss may need a different assessment. Switching treatments repeatedly without review can make progress harder to interpret.
We agree how to assess benefit and when to reconsider the plan. See PRP hair treatment at Evolution Clinic for the linked service, and the results guide for a practical way to track change.
