PRP hair treatment uses your own blood, but the blood draw and scalp injections still have risks. We review your scalp, medical history and medicines before recommending a course.
What can I feel after the injections?
Temporary soreness, tenderness or swelling can occur. A treatment made from your own blood is not automatically painless or free from infection risk. The European hair-loss guideline discusses both common reactions and less common complications.
Tell us about worsening pain, spreading redness, discharge, fever or another unexpected change. We provide a follow-up route so that you do not have to decide alone whether a reaction is normal.
Who needs additional assessment?
Tell us about a platelet or bleeding disorder, anaemia, infection, active scalp inflammation, cancer treatment, pregnancy or breastfeeding. We also ask about recent scalp injections and any allergy to a product used during the visit.
Medicines are part of the review. Do not stop an anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory medicine or another prescription because an online PRP checklist says to do so. We discuss any proposed change with the relevant prescriber.
What should I do with my normal hair routine?
Before you leave, we explain when to wash the scalp and when to restart your usual topical products. Tell us about minoxidil, medicated shampoos, hair dye and other treatments. The right instruction depends on the plan you received and the condition of your skin.
Do not transfer advice from PRP for a tendon or joint to scalp treatment. The injection site and recovery needs are different. Equally, advice after a hair transplant may not apply to a stand-alone PRP appointment.
What should happen before the next visit?
Report how recovery went, even if a reaction has resolved. Bring the dates of any new medicine or scalp treatment. We review these changes before repeating injections rather than treating the original course as automatic permission to continue.
