What did the FDA warn about?
On 15 October 2025, the FDA issued a safety communication about certain RF microneedling uses. It described reports of serious injuries, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage. Some required medical or surgical treatment.
The communication concerns the treatment category. It does not provide a personal risk percentage or mean that every session causes harm. It does mean that serious risks belong in the consultation, alongside the hoped-for benefits.
Why can unwanted fat loss happen?
The treatment delivers energy beneath the surface. Facial tissue depth and volume vary across regions and between people. A lean cheek needs a different assessment from an area with more tissue. Unwanted hollowing is not an acceptable synonym for tightening.
We assess the anatomy and discuss the intended target. Choosing treatment only by a device brand, a discount or the promise of “deeper results” leaves out important information.
Expected reactions and warning signs
Redness, tenderness, swelling and treatment marks can occur. Your written plan explains the expected recovery for your treatment. Contact us promptly for worsening pain, blisters, discharge, spreading redness, unusual colour change, or new weakness or numbness.
Do not try to treat a suspected burn or infection with unadvised active skincare. A new uneven or hollow area also needs assessment before any corrective treatment is considered.
What should be checked before treatment?
We review skin conditions, infection, cold-sore history, unusual scarring, healing or bleeding problems, medicines, implants and previous procedures. Tell us about pregnancy or breastfeeding and recent sun exposure. Do not stop prescribed treatment without advice.
Assessment may lead to a different option or to postponement. Consent is a chance to understand that decision, not simply a form to sign immediately before the handpiece touches your skin.
Does choosing a licensed clinic remove the risk?
No. Our licensing, authorized sourcing, training and follow-up are firm standards of care, not a guarantee against complications.
