Lip filler swelling can change the early shape and may not be even on both sides. Follow your doctor's recovery plan, but do not assume all pain or colour change is normal swelling. Some symptoms need immediate medical help.
Why there is no universal day-by-day chart
The product, treated area, individual reaction and earlier lip treatment affect recovery. Online photographs labelled day 1 or day 3 show one person's course. They do not establish how your lips should look on those days.
Early fullness can include swelling as well as filler. A later reduction in swelling does not automatically mean the product has disappeared or that more is needed. We explain when to assess the settled result and when to contact us before that review.
What is useful to monitor?
Notice whether discomfort and swelling are improving, stable or worsening. Pay attention to skin colour, increasing tenderness and any new symptom. Keep your written aftercare and the clinic contact details available.
If you take photographs for review, use similar light, distance and expression. Send them only through the clinic's agreed contact route. A photograph can help explain a concern but cannot safely rule out blood-vessel injury or infection.
Signs that should not wait
Unusual or severe pain, white, grey or blue skin, a visual change or stroke-like symptoms need immediate medical attention. Contact the clinic urgently too. Do not wait for a swelling stage to pass or try massage first. FDA filler safety information.
Increasing heat, spreading redness, discharge or feeling unwell may require prompt assessment. Breathing difficulty or signs of a severe allergic reaction require emergency help. Tell the treating team when the change began and what has happened since.
Follow the aftercare for your treatment
We give written advice for activity, heat, pressure on the lips and skincare. Do not squeeze a lump or use a self-selected massage technique. The correct response depends on the cause of the change and the product used.
Tell us if you have a history of cold sores. A doctor may need to assess a sore or blister rather than have you assume it is an injection mark. Do not self-prescribe medication based on a recovery photograph.
When to assess shape and fullness
We review the settled appearance in the context of your original goal and natural asymmetry. The first mirror check after treatment is not a reliable reason to request more volume. A persistent lump or unwanted change needs examination before correction is considered.
Hyaluronic acid filler can sometimes be reduced medically, but dissolving has risks and is not a guaranteed reset. Read lip-filler suitability before making a first decision, and lip-filler duration before considering repeat treatment.
