What can happen soon after treatment?
Discomfort, swelling, redness, bruising and altered sensation can occur. Numbness may last longer than the visible redness. Skin burns, nodules and other injuries are also possible. If treatment is under the chin, the risk discussion must address that area's anatomy rather than reuse an abdomen-only explanation.
Contact us about worsening pain, blistering, skin damage or a recovery that does not follow the plan we discussed. We assess the change rather than assume that a non-surgical treatment cannot cause a significant injury.
What is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia?
PAH is an unusual response in which treated fatty tissue becomes larger and firmer instead of shrinking. It can develop after a delay and may require surgical correction. This is different from not getting the amount of reduction you hoped for. The FDA explains PAH and other cryolipolysis complications.
Do not book another freezing session over an unexplained enlargement. Arrange a clinical review and tell us when it appeared and how it has changed.
Cold sensitivity and abdominal history matter
Tell us about cold-related disorders, circulation problems, previous hernia, abdominal surgery or weakness of the abdominal wall. These can affect whether an area should be treated. Also disclose pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin problems, bleeding conditions, medicines and any significant illness.
This is not a checklist for self-clearance. We examine the proposed area and review your history before recommending treatment. A service available in the catalogue may still be unsuitable for a particular patient.
What does consent include?
We also discuss what follow-up may involve if a complication develops. Licensing and authentic devices are important parts of our care, but they do not remove the inherent risks of treatment.
You can choose not to proceed after that discussion. There is no requirement to accept a treatment because you attended an assessment or found an offer.
