Medical Director explains
Our Medical Director explains how Sculptra stimulates collagen and why changes develop gradually.
Poly-L-lactic acid collagen stimulator
Sculptra contains tiny particles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a material also used in dissolvable stitches. Once placed beneath the skin, these particles stimulate fibroblasts — the cells that make collagen. Collagen gives skin its strength and support.
The liquid used to prepare Sculptra is absorbed first. New collagen then develops over the following weeks and months, which is why the change builds gradually. The PLLA particles slowly break down while the collagen supports the tissue.
For body treatment, the focus is improved skin quality and firmness on the abdomen, knees and buttocks.
key facts

A small area around the knees needs a different injection pattern from a broader area of abdominal skin. Skin thickness, the degree of looseness and the size of the area guide the amount and placement of Sculptra.
The doctor selects these details for you. After treatment, written care instructions and follow-up help you track the slower collagen response. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange a Sculptra body appointment.
Questions
We offer Sculptra for the abdomen, knees and buttocks. The focus is skin quality and firmness.
Early fullness includes the liquid used to prepare Sculptra and temporary swelling. These settle before the slower collagen response develops over weeks and months. Later photographs help show the change.
The size of the area, skin thickness and degree of looseness guide the first treatment plan. The response between sessions helps decide whether more treatment would be useful.
Sculptra is used here for buttock skin quality and firmness. A surgical lift or a large increase in size is a different treatment goal.
The enzyme used for hyaluronic acid filler does not dissolve Sculptra. Contact the clinic about a new or persistent lump before trying massage or any other correction.

Meet ElviraLoose abdominal skin and unwanted fat are different concerns. Sculptra body treatment focuses on skin quality and firmness by stimulating collagen beneath the surface. This makes the condition of your skin, rather than a change on the scales, the useful starting point.
Skin around the knees can develop fine folds and a creased texture as it loses support. Here, the aim is to improve the quality of the skin in a smaller, defined area. Skin thickness and the extent of looseness guide where the product is placed.
On the buttocks, our Sculptra treatment focuses on firmness and skin quality. Collagen stimulation offers a gradual approach to these concerns. The intended change is in the skin itself, rather than a large increase in buttock size.
For treatment of the cheeks, temples or lower face, see our facial Sculptra page.
Sculptra is prepared in a liquid before injection. At first, that liquid and temporary swelling can make an area seem fuller. As these settle, the skin can appear much as it did before. Collagen renewal is a slower process that takes place beneath the surface.
Over the following weeks and months, the useful signs to follow are changes in skin firmness and texture. Photographs taken in the same light and position make these subtle changes easier to see. The aim is a gradual improvement that develops from your own collagen.
Skin thickness, the size of the area and the degree of looseness affect the treatment plan. A small area around the knees and a broader abdominal area do not need identical treatment. Progress between sessions helps guide the next step.
Read our guide to Sculptra results and gradual changes for a fuller explanation of collagen renewal. The facial results in that guide describe facial treatment.
The duration varies by area and response. Facial duration estimates do not establish how long body results will last.
Bruising, swelling and tenderness can follow injections. Lumps can develop later; contact the clinic about a new, persistent or painful lump. Follow your massage instructions. Sculptra cannot be dissolved with the enzyme used for hyaluronic acid filler.
Tell us about allergies, abnormal scarring, active skin infection, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all medicines. Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not established. Do not stop prescribed medicines without the prescriber’s advice.
Severe unusual pain, sudden skin-colour change or visual symptoms need urgent medical help. Breathing difficulty or a severe allergic reaction needs emergency care. Do not delay care to massage the area.
