PRP Facial Benefits: What Does the Evidence Show?

A clear guide to possible PRP facial benefits, mixed clinical findings, treatment routes and the limits of skin-rejuvenation claims.

PRP facial treatment may be considered for skin-quality concerns, but improvement is not guaranteed. Studies report mixed findings. Using your own blood does not prove that treatment will work or remove the risks of blood handling and injections.

We offer PRP Facial with Eclipse. We assess the concern you want to change and explain the proposed method before recommending treatment.

What is PRP intended to do?

Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from a blood sample. The platelets and their signalling proteins are the reason it has been studied for skin repair and rejuvenation. That biological rationale is different from proof of a visible improvement.

In a small randomized facial study, participants reported some improvement in texture and wrinkles, while dermatologist assessments did not find a significant advantage over saline on the measured features. Patient satisfaction and independently measured change are different outcomes. Original randomized facial PRP trial.

Why are results uncertain?

Another randomized study enrolled 18 women and compared PRP with saline injections; both sides also received microneedling. It did not find a clear additional visible benefit from PRP for the measured signs of facial ageing. This is one protocol in a small group, not proof that every PRP use is ineffective. It does show why broad rejuvenation promises are not justified. Original 2024 study.

Preparation methods, treatment routes and the outcome being measured can differ. We do not use evidence from hair treatment to promise a facial result, or assume that an improvement in one measurement means that all wrinkles will improve.

Is a PRP facial the same as microneedling with PRP?

No. An injection plan and PRP applied with a needling treatment are different methods. The FDA states that it has not cleared microneedling devices for use with products such as PRP. This is a reason to assess the combination itself rather than assume that a cleared needling device validates every added product. FDA guidance.

Our microneedling benefits article explains the separate mechanical treatment. We do not describe SkinPen as a general PRP-delivery device.

What should I consider before treatment?

Tell us about bleeding or platelet disorders, infection, medicines and previous reactions to treatment products. Do not stop a prescribed blood thinner on your own. We review your history before blood collection and explain the aftercare for the actual method used.

Pain and stinging were reported in the 2024 trial. The earlier trial also describes short-term injection reactions. Contact us if pain, redness or swelling worsens, or if you develop discharge, unusual skin colour or feel unwell. Breathing difficulty or severe allergic symptoms need urgent care.

How should a result be judged?

Agree on the target before treatment: for example, a particular texture concern. Compare the same area after recovery, using similar photographs and your own assessment of whether the change matters. If there is little useful improvement, we review the plan instead of assuming more sessions are the answer.

For scalp concerns, read PRP hair results. Its diagnosis and evidence are separate from facial treatment.
