Abdomen

The abdomen is our most treated Ulfit area. Skin that has slackened after weight loss or pregnancy, with a soft lower-belly layer, responds best. We use the 13 mm cartridge for the fat layer and 9 or 6 mm for the fibrous layer closer to the skin. A hanging apron, separated abdominal muscles or a hernia do not respond to ultrasound and we check for all three.

Upper arms and underarms

The inner upper arm loosens early because the skin is thin and the fat layer small. We treat with the 6 and 9 mm cartridges; the bra-line fold in front of the armpit is booked as an underarm area.

Inner thighs, upper legs and knees

Inner thighs are treated for crepey, rubbing skin; the front of the thigh and above the knee for the fold that appears when standing. The knee area is a normal-size area and the upper leg a large one.

Buttocks and shoulders

The lower buttock fold responds to tightening of the fibrous layer; ultrasound does not add volume or lift a flat buttock. Shoulders are treated for loose skin under a strap line.

How focused ultrasound tightens body skin

Ulfit (Classys, Seoul) is high-intensity focused ultrasound. A curved transducer focuses sound waves so that they converge at a fixed depth: 6, 9 or 13 mm for the body cartridges, at 2 MHz. At the focus the tissue heats to over 55 °C, creating a tiny coagulation point while the skin surface and the tissue above stay intact. The body handpiece runs in a continuous circular motion rather than firing separate lines, which spreads the points evenly over a large area.

Two things follow. The fibrous septa that anchor the skin contract immediately and then remodel, laying down new collagen over 8 to 12 weeks. At the 13 mm depth some fat cells are coagulated and cleared by the body over the following months, which is why studies report modest circumference reduction as well as firmer skin.

A 2025 systematic review of 45 HIFU studies found skin-laxity improvement of 18 to 30 percent and abdominal and thigh circumference reduction of 2.5 to 4.5 cm, with fewer than 5 percent of patients reporting transient redness, swelling or discomfort. It also found that protocols vary between studies and long-term data are lacking, so we describe typical timing and review at each session rather than promising a percentage or a number of years. Because ultrasound is sound, not light, Ulfit does not depend on skin pigment and can be used in any season with ordinary SPF. Darker skin types still get conservative energy, because pigment change after overheating has been reported.

Ulfit or Ultraformer MPT for the body

Both devices are made by Classys and both reach 6, 9 and 13 mm. The difference is the handpiece and the pricing. Ultraformer MPT body uses linear cartridges that place separate lines of points, so treatment is booked by line count and suits a defined small zone such as the arms or knees. Ulfit's circular body cartridge moves continuously over the area, so treatment is booked per area and suits the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. Ulfit or Endolift

Endolift passes a laser fibre under the skin under local anaesthetic. It removes a defined fat pocket and tightens more strongly, with entry points and one to two weeks of swelling. Ulfit tightens from outside with no anaesthetic and no downtime but only modest fat reduction. Loose skin with a pinchable pocket: Endolift. Loose skin without a pocket: Ulfit.

Ulfit or radiofrequency

Volnewmer heats the dermis as a volume with monopolar radiofrequency; it improves texture and firms the surface layer without reaching the fat layer. Ulfit works deeper. Ulfit or fat freezing

Clatuu fat freezing destroys fat in a suction-held fold and does not tighten skin. When a bulge sits under good skin, fat freezing first; when the skin is the problem, Ulfit. For both, we stage them at least three to four weeks apart.

Combinations that help

Tesla Former muscle toning builds the muscle under a treated abdomen or buttock and supports the contour. Before your appointment

Tell us about a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator, metal plates or screws, breast or other implants, blood thinners, a bleeding disorder, epilepsy, autoimmune disease, diabetes, a keloid tendency, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a hernia, and every filler, thread or surgery in the area with dates. Each of these changes the plan or postpones it. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Come with clean skin and no lotion or oil on the area. Avoid sunburn and strong heat for 48 hours before, and avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers on the day unless prescribed, because they can increase bruising. Drink normally; you do not need to fast.

After your appointment

The area is pink and can feel tender or slightly swollen for hours to a few days; a tingling or numb patch along a treated zone is part of the healing response and fades. Moisturise and use SPF 30 or higher as usual. For 48 hours avoid saunas, hot baths, hard exercise and deep massage on the area. There is no dressing, no compression garment and no restriction on clothing.

Review and further sessions

We photograph at each visit and compare at 8 to 12 weeks, when collagen has had time to rebuild. A further session is a decision based on that comparison, not a fixed course; one session is often enough for mild slackness, and we do not treat again sooner than 8 weeks. After the plan is complete, repeat treatment is a fresh decision when a later comparison shows returning laxity.

Common and less common effects

Expected: redness, mild swelling and tenderness for hours to days, and occasionally a bruise or a numb, tingling patch that fades over days to weeks. Less common: a small burn or blister where energy was concentrated, a persistent numb patch, darkening of the skin over a treated zone in darker skin types, a small area of fat loss with a visible dent, and irritation of a motor nerve causing temporary weakness. Published reviews link these to wrong settings, excessive passes or treating over structures that should be avoided, which is why a doctor sets and delivers every session.

When to get prompt help

Contact us the same day for a blister, an open area, spreading redness, fever, pain that increases rather than eases, numbness that spreads beyond the treated zone, or any new weakness. Do not wait for the scheduled review.

When Ulfit is unsuitable

We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding; during active cancer treatment, chemotherapy or radiotherapy; over a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, metal implant, breast implant or other implant in the area; through open wounds, infection, severe dermatitis or active eczema; or over a severe or untreated hernia. Bleeding disorders and blood-thinning medication that cannot be paused, uncontrolled diabetes and a severe autoimmune flare mean postponing or choosing another option. A history of keloid scarring in the area and recent fillers, threads or surgery in the area need healing time and a separate decision. A hanging fold of excess skin will not tighten with ultrasound; we say so rather than treat.

Licensing and an original device are firm standards, but they do not remove these risks.
